First of with all Simpson’s Brushes its made from real badger hair, with the Chubby Series, you can select Super or Best Badger hair.
A lot of what you are paying for is the bristle. Each version of the Chubby is bigger than the one before, so the Chubby 1 (CH1) is the smallest and the Chubby 3 (CH3) is the largest so as you can imagine with more bristle the price will increase.
The size doesn’t affect how well or how quickly these brushes produce a lather, the size of the brush will be a personal preference based on how big or small you like your brushes.
When using a Simpson’s Chubby you will notice that the knot is densely packed, this means that even in the smallest Chubby you get a surprising amount of bristle.
Even if you choose a Super Badger version you can still expect a pretty stiff brush, this is something you need to bear in mind before you buy.
We find that we like a stiff brush as it tends to lubricate much more thoroughly and produces a much nicer lather.
If you have a sensitive face you may want a softer brush, though to be clear these brushes are stiff, not scratchy.
Simpson Duke 1 Best Badger Shaving Brush
The Duke comes in three sizes and two types of bristle.
The best Badger and the Prue Badger, making this a rather stiff brush.
The Duke is also Simpson’s best-selling brush, this may be because it sits in their middle-high price range.
Like the Chubby the Duke is packed with Bristles, it’s incredible how densely these bristles are pack.
The Duke although handles hand and face lathering, it’s particularly well suited to bowl lathering.
With ease you can get 3 passes from a single whipping and most likely 4-5 passes.
The reason this brush lathers so well is primarily about the high-quality bristles that soak up so much warm water which then release that moisture evenly into your shaving soap which means you don’t need to add your own water preventing that chances of a water mess!
If you are looking to get into the market and looking for a decent brush, the Duke is an excellent brush that will last you a very long time.

If you are looking for a small Shaving Brush, Simpson’s has you covered.
Most of the Simpson Shaving Brushes come in different sizes but a few are particularly small, these Simpson Shaving Brushes like the Wee Scott and the Case 1.
These made for great travel brushes but are also well suited to being your go-to brush.
The advantages of a small brush are that you’ll have a lot of control, they’re excellent for guys who want to keep a bit of facial hair these brushes allow you to work around the features with a large amount of accuracy.
Small brushes lather up just as well as large brushes so you won’t be sacrificing your lather and they are great for guys with small hands.
The inverse is the big brush, whilst you sacrifice control, big brushes give you a better spread and a superior exfoliation.
With a big brush, it’s much easier to saturate your beard and hair follicles ensuring all of the hairs are lubricated.
If you prefer a small brush, The Wee Scott and the Case 1 are excellent and they share all of the characteristics of a Simpson Shaving Brushes, so continue to have incredibly dense knows with high-quality bristles and ergonomic handles.

We struggled to find anything negative to say about Simpson Shaving Brushes, at a push we found that the coarser hair may be a just a bit too stiff for some and that some of the smaller brushes won’t work for the bigger guys.
The price is also high but then these brushes are well worth their price tag and your investment.
