Maestro’s beard butter is a little different from other butters. For a start, it’s not oil based, meaning it’s not a beard oil in a butter formula. Instead it’s individually formulated to be the best beard product possible.

Because of this, it’s a lot lighter on the face, sinks in quickly, and it’s completely water soluble meaning if you need to get it off your skin fast, you just need to wash your beard and it’s gone.

With rosemary and eucalyptus for skin health and hair growth, and shea and cocoa seed butter to moisturize and lock out dryness and beard dandruff, this butter will annihilate any skin issues you might have and leave your beard looking thick, lustrous and better than ever. It also smells strong, but nice. It’s very menthol, like cough drops, and I love that freshness. I even thought I could feel it on my face as soon as I applied it, making my skin tight, almost astringent.

You also get a huge amount for your money. About twice as much as you’d get with other brands, so when you pick this up it’s going to last forever.

We love Wild Willie (easy there!) because all of their products are quality. Made from a great selection of home grown ingredients in the USA, all organic and all great for your beard, it’s nice knowing you can pick up any product out of their range and not have to worry about whether you’re getting something good or not.

As for this beard butter, it’s just as good as we expected. It’s really thick, but rubs into your beard well and just melts into the skin. Bear in mind too much butter will oversaturate your skin, causing excess to sit on top of your beard and make your face look oily, but you can wash it straight off and you’ll get used to how much to use in a couple of goes anyway.

It smells sexy, too. A pretty faint but distinctive hint of pine and tea tree that leaves you feeling fresh and clean. The best thing about it though is how quickly it deals with skin complaints and softens up your beard. If you like beard butters and want a thicker one that gives you great control and moisturizing, almost like a balm, you’re gonna want to grab a Willie.

Fresh Beards Freak Beard Butter Review

Self-proclaimed most trusted beard brand in America, Fresh Beards’ butter certainly doesn’t disappoint. The first thing I noticed when I’d covered my face with it was the smell. Citrus fresh. Now I’m a man who loves a lemon, so this is perfect for me. My girlfriend commented on it too, which was a change, especially considering she has a really sensitive nose.

It’s light and easy to apply, with shea butter, coconut, jojoba and avocado oils as the main ingredients. It left my face feeling fresh, but I’ve used a lot of products, and I think this butter isn’t quite as good at moisturizing as the top two. Don’t let that put you off though as it’s still a great butter that any man will get along with.

A brand we’re not familiar with here at Major Beard. That doesn’t happen often, but I have to say that this beard butter impressed me. Despite the simplicity of the packaging and formula, it left my face feeling incredibly smooth and silky, and my beard more moist, manageable and manly feeling.

The smell is light, with a vague moisturizer feeling rather than the usual essential oil smells, which can be a bonus if that’s not what you’re into, but even if you’d prefer unscented the scent faded fast, leaving my beard itch free and conditioned.

I have to mention the price, too. It’s so much cheaper than the other brands in our top list, so if you’re just getting into butters or go through it like anything and need to budget, this is a solid, respectable choice.

We’ve just reviewed Fresh Beards’ Freak Butter in our top four, so we know how good this beard butter really is, but when you’re choosing for scent, you’ve got to go with the beach blend. The moment she smelled this on me, my missus literally said ‘It smells like holidays,’ and she was right.

It’s got a coconutty scent with a hint of lemon and vanilla. It really does smell like a bespoke sun cream and left me with images of sitting on a lounger sunning myself with a cool beer in my hand. Whilst this butter might not be able to get you to the beach, smelling like you’re there is the next best thing, right?

As a butter, it’s really light and absorbent, and leaves faces feeling refreshed and cool for the whole day. For a butter that smells this good, it’s a great choice.

Fresh and natural, Cremo Beard and Scruff Cream is a butter that’s light and easily absorbed, and leaves you with a clean, peppermint smell around your face for the whole day.

As a scent, it’s an unusual choice, but one I appreciate as it really does smell good. That hint of minty burn you get is fresh and clear, but it’s not strong enough to be a problem, especially since it’s a light enough scent to go with every aftershave I tried it with.

The cream itself sinks in well, rubbing into thick beards and absorbing easily into any type of hair, but it’s not the best beard conditioner I’ve found. My face still felt soft, and it killed any beard itch, but I have a particularly coarse beard and I felt it could have left my hairs smoother.

Yep, we chose another product from Wild Willie. Not only are these butters good enough for our top choices, but they also smell great.

Yes, they. One of the huge advantages of this butter is the options for scent. It comes in two varieties, an original scent, which smells of the forest, with pine and tea tree, and a cool mint smell, which unsurprisingly smells of mint.

Both scents are great. Strong without being over the top and light enough that people won’t even know you smell amazing until they get within a few feet of you.

It’s still a Wild Willie’s beard product, too, so you know that you’re going to get a quality butter when you grab one of these, not just one that makes you smell pretty.

For men who want to smell like men. Abraham’s beard butter will have your beard smelling like you strode into a 1920’s speak easy and stole it off a gangster. Bear in mind it doesn’t actually smell like tobacco. That’d be weird. Instead there’s a range of scents including orange and frankincense and bay rum (my personal choice.)

All natural ingredients look after your beard, making sure it keeps you conditioned and soft. As butters go this is another thicker mix, with a touch of beeswax, so for a stiffer beard and better hold for styling, this is a great choice.

Because of the base ingredients, most beard butters have at least a light scent, but if you want a beard butter that’s completely unscented, there are options available. If you’ve got sensitive skin or want to rock your own scent the two butters below won’t interfere with anything you’ve got going on, so you can buy them in complete confidence.

This is the third time we’ve featured a Fresh Beards butter in our list. Guys, you gotta take the hint. They rock.

Simplicity and ease of use, that’s what I got from this beard butter. The tin it comes in is basic, stamped aluminum with a straightforward brand marking, and that continued once I got it open.

It felt more like a balm, pretty thick and solid, but soon warmed up and sunk into my beard with ease. Because it’s unscented, all I ended up smelling was the tea tree in my beard wash and my aftershave, which was nice.

It kept my beard feeling soft for the majority of the day, and staved off beard itch. However, as a beard butter I feel like it would take a little longer to deal with dry skin and beardruff, probably because its a lot thicker than others I’ve used.

It’s proven that the best things for our beard are all natural and organic. Organic oils tend to match the oils produced naturally by our skin and are better for us in general, so all organic and natural is considered the way forward when it comes to looking after ourselves.
